NaNo Day 7: Technical Difficulties

I had a lot planned to do today.

I was going to write this post and the second Ch1Con intro post. (Read the first one here!) I was going to write five thousand words for NaNoWriMo. I was going to do a project for one class and get started on my Fangirl reread for another.

But before doing any of that, I was going to edit a video. The purpose of said video is not important. What is important is that it was supposed to be around five minutes long, and the thirty minutes or so of footage I had to edit into it had straightforward parts to cut and include, and I’d used Windows Movie Maker a million times before.

Fast forward to now: Nine. Hours. Later.

I’m sure you can see where this is going.

Sure enough, first Windows Movie Maker decided it hated one of the three files I was pulling clips from and kept declaring it was corrupted. That made the project impossible to finish for the first six hours or so. Then, right when I thought I was FINALLY DONE, I saved the file as an .mp4 and it decided it didn’t like another of the files I was working with, and kept pulling the wrong parts of that longer video for the clips I’d edited into mine.

Cue another three hours of desperation and resisting the urge to throw my laptop out the window.

So now, all I’ve accomplished today is, thank God, FINALLY finishing the video. (You’ll see it soon! Although it does not at all look like I spent nine hours on it.) Oh, and I guess I stress-ate an entire bag of tortilla chips?

Anyway, that is my excuse for why I am now five thousand words behind where I wanted to be in NaNoWriMo. But I think I’m going to go curl up in bed with Fangirl and pretend I made good life decisions today. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

Goal for today: 5,000.

Overall goal: 13,000.

Current word count: 9,143.
