I graduated from the University of Michigan and the Columbia Publishing Course UK in 2016, after which I moved to New York City to work in the publishing industry. In my free time, I write and run writerly nonprofit organization Chapter One Events.
Five (Maybe) Interesting Facts About Me:
- These days, I’m wayyy more active on Twitter and Instagram than I am on this blog. If you’d like to keep up with what I’m up to, your best bet would be to follow those accounts.
- I love movies about as much as I do books. I advise against asking me film-related questions unless you want me to talk your ear off.
- I’m a lacto-ovo vegetarian, which means that although I don’t eat meat or seafood, I do still eat eggs and dairy products. Because, let’s face it, I could never survive without cheese.
- Growing up, I was a competitive hula hooper and was the Michigan State Fair champion (twice). (If you’d like to see me embarrass myself, my old YouTube channel has a video of a routine I did in high school.)
- I once met JK Rowling and lived to tell the tale.
Hi Julia, I love your website and inspired by your passion to write! I am in my senior year in high school. I have always loved to write ever since I could remember, hence the reason why I have enjoyed English. (Math is a completely different story!)I want to use my love for writing by turning it into a career. Words are very powerful. This is what I love most about writing. Therefore, I would love to use them to make an impact or a difference. Do you have any advice for me as I plan and prepare for college or tips for when I get to college?

Just wanted to stop by and say hello. I found your blog through Adrianna Gabriel’s feature. Man alive, publication, University of Michigan, OXFORD… you are an intimidatingly accomplished young writer : ) I am about to start a full undergraduate degree in Wales, so I am inspired by you. Thank you so much! You’re so kind. 🙂 Are you from Wales, or moving there to study? (Either way, extremely jealous. I spent a few days there as part of my Oxford program and it’s now one of my favorite places on the planet. So beautiful!) Best of luck with everything, and for sure we can be blogging buddies! It’s nice to meet you.

P.S You say you are a lacto-ovo vegertarian, wow, never heard of it, if you think about it your eating those precious eggs that come form some animal,so your actually contributing to that poor animals demise..or not. I´m on mission to convert all the vegetarians to eat a good stake once a day, keep your cholesterol up. Stay Frosty

Hey Julia! I followed you over here from your post on the Literati store opening (I know, I’m a bit of a creep). Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself. I’m also a Wolverine and a writer, and I think we should connect sometime (either WordPress or real life!). 😉

Hi, Rebecca! It’s great to meet you, figuratively speaking. 🙂 And no worries, the internet is designed for creeping. I would absolutely love to meet up with you sometime–being a Wolverine and a writer is the best combination. I’m going to be sort of crazy busy for the next week or so, but if you want to grab lunch or something anytime after that, just let me know! (Also: I just did some of my own creeping, and congratulations on getting an agent!! That’s so fantastic! 🙂 )

It was TOO much fun. I was at Hersey Park on a trip with my church’s high school choir, and all of us had been speaking nonstop in British accents for the entire week. There were some girls, probably around eight or nine years old, waiting in line behind us for a ride, and it just sort of happened. We told them we were Harry Potter’s best friends, but we’d asked for too much money when JK Rowling was writing the books, so she had to put in those “other people,” Ron and Hermione, instead. When they asked us what we were doing in the United States, we said that You-Know-Who was back and now terrorizing the muggles on this side of the pond. I have a feeling those poor children had a tough time when their eleventh birthdays rolled around and they didn’t get their Hogwarts letters.

PS- I read your scholastic submission and it’s epic. It has the thrill and pacing of Divergent (also a huge fan!). You are so talented 😀

Hi Julia,
I’m an English major w/concentration in creative writing who does theater, thanks for stopping by my blog.
Hahaha, I love the last part…I’ve always wanted to start speaking to someone in French and see what their reaction in. I do British accents too; it has only gotten worse since I first watched Pirates of the Carribbean, now I go around saying ‘ello poppet all the time. (my friend from London says that if I ever say that in England I will be murdered)
Congrats on your acceptance to UMich…a girl in my drama club from my high school went there, she’s graduated, loved the theater program; it has a really great one. Enjoy your freshman year!

Sorry I’m replying to this message so freaking late (I’m terrible at timeliness, I swear). Thanks for posting! I’ve picked up telemarketer calls a couple times and spoken in Spanish to them, just to be annoying, but they always catch onto my American accent, unfortunately. Hopefully you’ll have better luck with the French?
I’m going to London soon, and I’m terrified I’m going to slip into a bad British dialect and end up getting chased out of Europe, haha.
I really enjoy your blog, and thanks for the well wishes. My freshman year was awesome. 🙂 See you around!

Haha it’s all good, I do it to. I’ve only tried the speaking French thing while in France, worked for a while until there were just some words I didn’t know & had to start speaking English.
