NaNo Day 9: Movies I’m Excited to See

I didn’t get as much written yesterday as I’d ultimately hoped for, but at the least I didn’t fall more behind. And I managed to get everything else done yesterday that I needed to! (Yay for small victories.)

I’m now at 13.3k in NaNoWriMo, which is only a little under 2k below where I meant to be by today. And I don’t have as much going on today as I did last Monday, so hopefully I’ll actually have a chance to write during a sane hour! (Although I also have to do some homework and catch up on work for the extra-curriculars that I’m running this year, so that’ll take a lot of my free time.) (But shhh.)

In my contemporary film industry class, we discussed today how Spectre finally dropped The Martian from the top spot in the U.S. box office, after a whole month as #1. Talking about box office dynamics and all that got me thinking about which movies will probably take over the #1 spot in the next few months–which then got me also thinking about which movies coming out over the next few months (whether they’re likely to break box office records or not) I am ABSOLUTELY DYING TO SEE.

So: My 2015 list of Movies I’m Excited to See.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2

Release Date: November 20, 2015

What It’s About: The Girl on Fire sets everything else on fire.

Why I’m Excited: No duh.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Release Date: December 18, 2015

What It’s About: I mean.

Why I’m Excited: See answer to this question under Mockingjay Part 2.

Bridge of Spies

Release Date: October 16, 2015 (Out Now)

What It’s About: The CIA taps on an ordinary American lawyer during the Cold War to represent a Soviet spy in court, in an effort to ultimately facilitate an exchange for a captured American pilot.

Why I’m Excited: I love spy stuff and I love stuff based on true stories and I love Tom Hanks. Basically, this movie was made for me. (And you too, if you also like that kind of stuff!)

The Good Dinosaur

Release Date: November 25, 2015

What It’s About: I actually have no idea what this movie is about. BUT:

Why I’m Excited: Pixar and dinosaurs? Sign me up.

Release Date: December 25, 2015

What It’s About: This movie follows a powerful and corrupt family across four generations, as one woman (Joy) founds a business dynasty.

Why I’m Excited: Let’s be honest: I’ll watch anything Jennifer Lawrence is in, at this point.

What movies are you excited about? Anything I missed that I should add?

The Creative Blogger Award

I’ve been nominated for another blogging award! A huge thanks to the ever lovely Adriana Gabrielle for the nomination.

The Rules:
~Nominate 15-20 blogs and notify all nominees via their social media/blogs
~Thank and post the link of the blog that nominated you (very important)
~Share 5 facts about yourself to your readers
~Pass these rules on to them

The Nominees:
Kira of Kira Brighton: Author
Ariel of Ariel Kalati, Writer
Mel of The Ultimately Useless Stories of an Average Teenager
Joan of The Spastic Writer
Hannah of Just Hannah dot Rose
Hannah of To Journey Toward
Shelby of Shelby Writes

(Not nominating 15 to 20 people, because whoa that’s a lot. So: even if I haven’t nominated you, if you’d like to complete this tag, go for it!)

The Facts:

1. I’m super into movies. Like, SUPER into movies. I almost ended up double majoring in film (in addition to my creative writing and literature major), but couldn’t quite justify it since I don’t currently have plans to work in the film industry. (Instead I’m a film minor with a bunch of extra film classes just for fun, like the screenwriting course I’m in right now.)

2. I’m trying to get in shape this summer, so I’m currently doing a hundred situps and biking about twenty miles a day. I like biking, because when I’m riding one of the stationary bikes in my building’s gym I can watch endless Netflix. My goal’s to get up to thirty miles a day.

3. As a counterpoint to the getting-in-shape thing, I’m also really into cooking and I put on like eight pounds this school year because I was finally out of the dorms and so had a kitchen at my disposal.

4. I’m addicted to the CW’s crappy superhero shows. The Flash, especially. There’s just something about attractive actors and bad writing.

5. I own a ridiculous number of mugs. It started because I didn’t own any, so I had to borrow one from my parents when I moved to college freshman year. So I bought myself one on a trip, then two–then all of a sudden I had like twenty and people keep giving them to me as gifts and I’m starting to run out of space for them. (But also, like, can you ever have too many mugs?) (The answer is yes. And I’ve just about reached that point.)

Thanks again for the nomination, Adriana! I’m looking forward to seeing everyone else’s facts. 🙂

NaNo Day 24: Movies I’m Excited to See

No NaNoing so far today, and I probably won’t work tonight, because I have a couple projects due tomorrow. But if all goes well, I’m hoping to write that last 2.5K tomorrow. (In which case I get to spend all of Thanksgiving break working on a term paper instead. Yayyy.)

This morning I got my stitches out, and while my dermatologist says the nerves in my arm won’t grow back for another six months to two years, I’m really glad we went through with the semi-emergency surgery, because the weird mole did turn out to be moderately dysplastic. (Read: pre-cancerous.) Which obviously isn’t a big deal (I end up with one basically every time I get a sunburn)–but, like, it COULD have been if we’d left it in. So take that as a warning, please. Get your skin checked every once in a while.

After that, my dad drove me back to school, and I’ve been floating between classes and group projects and trying not to get blown away by the fifty MPH gusts of wind ever since. And now I just got back from a screening for one of my film classes, which reminded me: There are a lot of movies coming out at the end of this year and during 2015 that look REALLY, REALLY GOOD. And I’m super excited for a lot of them.

So: Movies I’m Excited to See. November 2014 Edition.

This of course isn’t an exhaustive list, but these are the ones that came to mind that have trailers out.

Release Date: November 14, 2014 (Out Now)

What It’s About: An actor, once famous for portraying an iconic superhero, tries to reclaim some of his lost fame by acting in a Broadway show.

Why I’m Excited: Besides the plot itself (which sounds awesome), I’m excited to see this because they shot it so that nearly the entire film looks like one, super long take. Like whoa.

The Theory of Everything

Release Date: November 26, 2014

What It’s About: It’s the love story of Stephen Hawking and his first wife.

Why I’m Excited: Stephen Hawking fascinates me and this just looks really beautifully done. And I’ve heard great things about Eddie Redmayne in this.

Into the Woods

Release Date: December 25, 2014

What It’s About: All your favorite fairytales interwoven into a complex, twisted, dark, mess of wonderful.

Why I’m Excited: Into the Woods is far from my favorite musical, but it’s still a really cool story, the majority of the cast should be awesome, and it has some great music. (Also some music that will be stuck in your head forever and always, if the fact I sometimes still find myself singing it after playing Little Red in a production of Into the Woods Jr. my junior year of high school is any indication.)

Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb

Release Date: December 19, 2014

What It’s About: The magic in the tablet that makes everything in the Museum of Natural History come to life at night is running out, so the museum gang journey to London to figure out how to save themselves.

Why I’m Excited: This movie was not at all necessary to make, but it looks hilarious and, ugh, Robin Williams. (Disclaimer: I got free passes to an advance screening, so I’m possibly biased.)

Release Date: December 19, 2014

What It’s About: It’s Annie, updated to modern day circumstances with modern day sounds.

Why I’m Excited: I’m a tiny bit nervous for updating the music and storyline of such a classic, but this looks WAY too adorable for that to keep me from being excited for it.

Pitch Perfect 2

Release Date: May 15, 2015

What It’s About: The college a cappella competition goes international.

Why I’m Excited: Do I even need to say?

Avengers: Age of Ultron

Release Date: May 1, 2015

What It’s About: I’m honestly not even sure, except that it involves the Avengers and a creepy robot dude singing about puppets. (According to imdb: “When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and it is up to The Avengers to stop the villainous Ultron from enacting his terrible plans…”)

Why I’m Excited: I love the Marvel universe and this looks like it will be sort of like Avengers meets Winter Soldier. Which I am really, really okay with.

Release Date: May 22, 2015

What It’s About: George Clooney and Random Teenage Girl share memories of a mysterious place called Tomorrowland and try to figure out what it is. (So basically what everyone’s going to be doing until the movie comes out.)

Why I’m Excited: It’s based on part of Disney World and the editing in this trailer is beautiful.

Inside Out

Release Date: June 19, 2015

What It’s About: It’s the story of a little girl whose family moves and all the emotional upheaval caused by that–from the perspective of the emotions.

Why I’m Excited: Pixar. The cast. Also it vaguely reminds me Osmosis Jones, which was a highly underrated film (or at least seemed like one when I was six).

So those are some of the movies I’m excited to see over the course of the next half a year or so. What movies are you excited for? Any really awesome ones I missed?

Goal for today: 1,000.

Overall goal: 46,000.

Current word count: 47,537.

NaNo Day 18: Movies I’m Excited to See

Well, I didn’t make 5k yesterday, but I did get a few thousand words written, so my total’s now up to 31,000. And although I have a nice chunk of homework to do today, I’m hoping to get some writing done in between assignments. We’ll see how that goes.

Meanwhile, rather than revolving around classes, my writing schedule this week focuses on what’s happening Thursday night. AKA The Hunger Games: Catching Fire comes out and I’m about to pee myself small dog-style out of excitement, so I’m trying to get a lot of my writing done earlier in the week so that I can relax and enjoy the movie later on.

Catching Fire isn’t the only movie releasing soon that I’m psyched about reaching theaters, though. I give you: Movies I’m Excited to See

The Book Thief

While normally I prefer to read a book before I see its film adaption, I’m actually really hoping to see the movie version of this one first. Because I feel like spending a couple hours on a sad film that’ll let me in on all the sad plot twists of the story, first, will help me prepare for trying to get through the novel later. (Yes. I know the novel is incredible. But I also know it’s going to make me cry really hard, and I want to be prepared for that.)

This movie has already released in some markets, but won’t release here in Michigan until November 23nd. Maybe. It’s been really complicated trying to get release information, since it’s apparently already out in the rest of the country but not at all in this state.

I’m purposely avoiding learning too much about this movie right now because I’d rather be surprised than disappointed when I see it, but from what I’ve heard it’s supposed to be the best animated film since The Lion King? Okay. I’ll take it for a spin.

This movie releases in the United States on November 27th.

Saving Mr. Banks

Apparently a lot of people have not heard about this movie yet. If you have not heard about it, please watch the trailer and fall in love with it. (I’m not a big Mary Poppins fan, but this looks like such a unique story, and kudos to Disney for telling it, even though I’m sure they’ve cleaned it up a bit to end in their favor.) (If you’ve heard the back story of how the movie came to be made, it’s also incredible.)

This movie releases in the United States on December 20th.

I’m getting a little bit very nervous for this movie, because I haven’t been huge on a lot of the promotional materials they’ve released so far. But I’m hoping it’ll turn out as good as the book after all. (If you want to know why this trailer makes me antsy about the film, Christina of polandbananasbooks on Youtube describes my thoughts perfectly.)

This movie releases in the United States on March 21st, 2014.

X-Men: Days of Future Past

Let’s be honest. I’ll just watch anything with Jennifer Lawrence in it.

This movie releases in the United States on May 23rd, 2014.

Of course there are a few other movies I’m excited for too (The Amazing Spider-Man 2, TFiOS, etc), but we’re yet to get trailers for those, unfortunately.

What movies are you excited for that are coming out soon? Do you have any suggestions for things I should see?
